So, how did I get here?
I vividly remember the day I got a phone call from my sister, informing me that the bank account was in debt to the tune of $55,000. This was my responsibility. Needless to say, I did not sleep that night. I was on my bank’s doorstep before they opened on Monday morning. I had to face this situation head on.
I borrowed $100,000 from my bank to keep the family business floating and then, I got to work. I began forming crucial relationships with leaders in the automobile industry. I involved myself in Think Tanks, which in our parlance was called a “20 Group”. It’s an organization of dealers from different parts of the country who get together 3 times a year to share ideas.
As far as me advancing the car business, in the Jim Shorkey world, that was ABSOLUTELY the best thing I did!
Here’s what came of it:
1. I came back with at least 10 ideas every single time
2. I did everything I could over the next 6 months to implement the ten.
P.S. Even if I got 5 implemented, I saw the needle move.
3. I continued to see the needle move
That is just one example of “Seeking Expert Counsel” that we encourage you to do inside of our program. It provided accountability because you had to commit to the group, “Okay, here is what I am going to do. Here is my list of 10. I am going to go back and do this” And then when you came back to the next meeting they asked:
“Okay, Jim… HOW DID YOU DO?”.
The reality is we need each other in order to reach our goals. If you’ve ever felt alone in pursuing your goals, the truth is it doesn’t have to be that way. Join our community of like-minded individuals and form your own accountability team and let’s reach your goals together.
